Our release volunteers have been busy! Between April 27 and May 12, they hosted more than 500 students and chaperones to release coho fry into Fauntleroy Creek. By May 31, the Fauntleroy Watershed Council will have enabled 17 Salmon in the Schools releases.
As part of their fieldtrip to Fauntleroy Park, preschoolers through fifth graders have been exploring the natural habitat that will be essential to their fishes’ survival before leaving for saltwater next spring.
Dennis Hinton, Shannon Ninburg, Pete Draughon, and Tom Trulin comprise the release team. Behind the scenes, Jack Lawless rears back-up fish to ensure that every student has a fish to put in the water, and Judy Pickens does scheduling and coordinating.
