WE HAVE HOME HATCH!

On Feb. 20, volunteers observed the first of our “home hatch” of coho fry from last fall’s spawning.  Soon the lower creek was teeming with new life.

The fry are about 13 weeks old and less than an inch long.  Seeing them takes patience because they don’t want to expose themselves to predators.  At this fragile stage of their development, we are discouraging creekside visitors.

The upper creek will soon be teeming with students releasing the fry they are rearing through the Salmon in the Schools program.  Our release team is expecting to host at least 13 field trips to Fauntleroy Park in May.
