Students from Gatewood Elementary launched the annual salmon-release season on Fauntleroy Creek by releasing 120 coho fry in Fauntleroy Park, reared through the Salmon in the Schools program.
Volunteers helped them put fish in the water, explore nearby habitat, and examine insects in the water that will nourish their fry. By May 26, 14 student and community groups will have released more than 1,500 fry. Those fish will join scores of “home hatch” fry from last fall’s spawning in the lower creek.
