On June 1, a community salmon release tucked the last of 2,281 coho fry into Fauntleroy Creek, where they will spend the next year before heading to saltwater.
Between April 28 and May 31, volunteers hosted 778 students and 301 supporting adults on 22 school releases, most in Fauntleroy Park. Students ranged from preschool to post high school.
Two dozen volunteers are now trained to staff release field trips for a growing number of West Seattle schools participating in the Salmon in the Schools program. With the recent addition of Fairmount Park Elementary and Summit Atlas next term, 16 schools are expected to rear fish destined for the creek in spring 2026.
