TEENAGE COHO ON THE MOVE

Video by Tom Trulin

Getting new net traps into upper and lower Fauntleroy Creek on March 14 proved to be good timing.  Just four days later, a volunteer documented the first coho teenager (smolt) heading to saltwater from Fauntleroy Park.

Eagle Scout candidate Ben Vornbrock designed, built, and installed the traps, with help from family members and fellow Scouts.  Volunteer monitors will check them twice daily until at least mid May to know how many release and home-hatch fry survived their year in the creek to leave as smolts for nearshore habitat in Fauntleroy Cove.
